SPORTS AND RECREATION:
Turnberry Isle’s two Raymond Floyd-redesigned championship-caliber golf courses have both gone through more than $45 million in renovations changing the landscape of Florida golf. The South Course’s (Soffer) debut was December 2006 and the North (Miller) opened in December 2007. Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., both courses offer lush, tropical grounds accentuated with a variety of elevation changes, contoured fairways, sharp changes within holes and strategically placed water features. Varied flora and trees indigenous to Florida’s tropical climate create an oasis-like feel throughout the courses giving nearly each hole a private feel, with more than $100,000 in landscaping spent on each hole of play. Occasionally, a beautiful statue can be found nestled within the foliage, reminding golfers that beauty surrounds them at every turn.
The resort’s courses are home to hundreds of birds who continue to call Turnberry home. Special nesting areas have been positioned throughout the courses. Even a separate “Flamingo Island” was built within Lake Julius, the largest and deepest body of water at the resort named after Golf Hall of Famer and former Golf Director Julius Boros. The Island ensures resident Flamingoes are able to nest and nurture their young in a natural environment.
The courses vibrant hues accentuated by the Paspalum Sea Dwarf grass that stays green year round is offset by the many lakes, brilliant flowers, white sand bunkers and lush foliage, all creating a golfer’s dream destination.
Turnberry Isle Miami is affiliated with the elite Cañas Tennis directed by Guillermo Cañas, one of the world’s most recognizable tennis players who ranked #8 on the ATP tour. Facilities include a state-of-the-art tennis center featuring four clay HydroCourts lit up at night, a Tennis Shop as well as eight additional courts at its Turnberry Marina. Courts are self-irrigating and host players of all levels. Daily clinics, private lessons and corporate packages are available.
The only one of its kind at a South Florida resort, the 7,500 square-foot Laguna Pool is its own paradise featuring a 180-foot long, 35-foot high waterslide that gently winds around into a splash pool supervised by a water safety attendant, an 800-linear-foot lazy river with single and double inner-tubes, a separate hot tub and toddler wading pool, plus a nearby Laguna Grill.
While children play, parents can relax by the lagoon-style heated zero-entry swimming pool on one of the plush lounges or round cushioned beds, or rent one of the 13 private cabanas for a day where fine furnishings, a 32-inch LCD flat screen television, a refrigerator, changing room and premier service provide the ultimate escape. Cabana prices vary throughout the year.
At the heart of the resort lies the tranquil Cascata Pool, surrounded by Turnberry Isle’s beautiful Mediterranean-style ambiance. Poolside amenities include plush lounge chairs and a tiki bar that serves specialty frozen cocktails and casual fare.
Kids’ Connection teaches children about the world, plus is jammed-packed with a variety of fun-filled activities that’s sure to impress even the toughest little critic, including teambuilding and cooperative games, arts & crafts, sports and fitness, drama, pool activities, a character club and special classes like zumba and safari animals. Half-day programs are $45 per child and run from 9 a.m. to noon and noon to 3 p.m. or parents can choose a full-day schedule ($65 per child) that includes lunch from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A scenic 2.9-mile jogging trail circles the resort and its golf courses providing a great workout option for the entire family.
SPA & FITNESS CENTER:
The 25,000 square-foot Spa and Fitness Center, created by famous resort architect Tag Galyean, is the shinning jewel in Turnberry Isle’s royal crown. The Spa’s three floors are connected by a grand spiral staircase that showcases a soothing fountain, all accented by a glass dome skylight. There are 27 treatment rooms in total, an extensive menu of treatments, a 3,650 square-foot fitness center complete with an aerobics and spin cycle studio, weight and cardio rooms. The Fitness Center is home to one of the most comprehensive wellness programs.
