AVENTURA, Fla.– James Beard award-winning chef and wildly successful restaurateur, Michael Mina, the culinary innovator behind a string of critically acclaimed restaurants in Las Vegas and San Francisco, has brought his signature cooking style and unique culinary vision to Aventura with BOURBON STEAK, A Michael Mina Restaurant.
A contemporary American steakhouse, BOURBON STEAK –the only one in the State of Florida—is located just off the main resort lobby at Turnberry Isle Miami and gives South Florida diners the chance to sample Mina’s singular culinary style in a chic, 250-seat space designed by longtime Mina collaborator, Tony Chi.
With a menu that takes its cues from Mina’s stunning Las Vegas steakhouse, Stripsteak at Mandalay, BOURBON STEAK features modern American fare with a focus on the finest meats and freshest seafood available worldwide.
To start things off, diners may choose from the menu’s extensive selection of ice cold shellfish ($19-$69); including seafood cocktails of Maine lobster, jumbo shrimp or Alaskan king crab claws as well as a comprehensive range of briny, delicious oysters; all flown in fresh daily. Appetizers ($12-$21) offer an opportunity to sample some of the incredible flavors that have put Mina on the culinary map, such as the ahi tuna tartare served with ancho chile, Bosc pear and sesame oil.
The wood-burning grill is the restaurant’s center stage – where premier cuts of prime meats, as well as Japanese and American wagyu are cooked over seasoned wood fueled flames. Prior to grilling, all meats at BOURBON STEAK are first poached to mouthwatering tenderness – red meats in butter, lamb in olive oil and pork in bacon fat. Beef ($29-89), and served in juicy cuts of rib eye, filet mignon, skirt steak, porterhouse and flatiron.
To further enhance the overall dining experience, accompaniments ($21-$24) of butter-poached half Maine lobster and Hudson Valley foie gras add a whole new meaning to the concept of surf and turf. For those who prefer only the surf, Mina turns to the grill once again for perfectly cooked seafood dishes including choices such as big eye tuna, Scottish salmon and local snapper, among others.
Contemporary takes on classic American steakhouse sides are served a la carte ($10) with a delectable array of dishes including creamed spinach, sautéed baby bok choy and a truffled macaroni & cheese. Mina’s signature duck fat fries come with every meal.
Mina also treats diners to a selection of his signature “Classics” ($32-$49) – generous portions of down home favorites like the infamous Maine lobster pot pie with a truffle cream and seasonal vegetables and flavor-packed glazed beef short ribs served with celery root purée, baby vegetables and perigourdine. A selection of over 1,000 fine wines is offered.
Known for cutting edge restaurant design, Chi’s concept for BOURBON STEAK serves to differentiate the restaurant from the resort with a distinct and dynamic twelve foot high glass box entry that provides a dramatic welcome to guests entering through the hotel lobby. Comprised of a number of different spaces, the breathtaking 7,600 square foot restaurant includes the bar & lounge area, a casual dining space fed by the energy of an adjacent bar, a wine cellar and lounge, a large glamorous dining room with glittering mirrored walls and a “glass box” private dining room. There is an additional Tasting Room with a private garden.
For bar-goers, the sleek bar at BOURBON STEAK features the popular Bar Burgers menu inclusive of four signature burgers, small plates, sides and “adult” milkshakes, while drink specials during Raise Your Spirits happy hour along with wine and bourbon tastings are conducted every weekday.
